Lorraine has extensive experience teaching in the infant years and is very passionate about early years education, believing that a solid foundation in the early years is vital for our young learners. Lorraine has spent many years researching various areas of the early years curriculum as well as gaining a masters in Early Years Education. This knowledge, experience and passion has culminated in the creation of a practical course, filled with knowledge, ideas, tips and advice that will guarantee to help you in your practice as an Infant teacher. 

Brand new content for 2026! 

The 2026 course now includes an exciting new maths module, which is an optional extra, designed specifically for infant teachers. This module focuses on hands-on, play-based approaches to teaching maths, fully aligned with the new Primary Mathematics Curriculum.

You’ll explore simple, practical ways to embed maths into everyday classroom play, helping children develop confidence, problem-solving skills, and a positive attitude towards maths. You will come away with lots of  ready-to-use ideas, activities, and strategies across all strands making it easy to bring the new maths framework to life in your classroom.

What Is Included In The Course 

The course is broken into 6 modules, each one containing a wealth of information, ideas and advice for you to take into your classroom next year and for years to come. The 6 modules will cover: 

  • Module 1 - An introduction to the course. Giving you all the information you need to make sure you get the most from the course.
  • Module 2 - Getting Started With Infants. Looking at the importance of relationships, setting up your classroom and planning. 
  • Module 3 - Literacy 1. Looking at oral language, phonological awareness, phonemic awareness and phonics.
  • Module 4 - Literacy 2. Looking at fine motor skills, handwriting and the steps to writing for young writers 
  • Module 5 - Play and Well-Being. Looking at how to incorporate a playful approach to your  teaching and learning through play 
  • Module 6 - The Infant Curriculum. Looking at approaches to the curriculum content, topic planning, assessment and communicating the curriculum to parents. 

What Are The Course Requirements? 

As this course is approved by the Department Of Educations, all participants are required to meet the following requirements in order to receive your certificate which qualifies you for 3 EPV days for the next academic year. 

  • Engage in 20 hours of course material - 10 hours online and 10 hours offline 
  • Complete 1 assignment (200 words) at the end of each of the 5 modules. 
  • For each module, make 2 contributions to the forum for that module. These can be your own response to the discussion topic, or a response to another participants comment. 
  • Upon completion you must upload your completed learning log for your tutor to assess.
